Best Beaches in Lefkada You Can Only Reach by Boat
Lefkada has over 30 beaches along its western and southern coastline. Most visitors know Porto Katsiki and Egremni from Instagram. But some of the island's finest stretches of sand sit below sheer cliffs with no road, no path, and no way down on foot.
The only way to reach them is by boat. And that is exactly what makes them special.
Porto Katsiki
Consistently ranked among Europe's top beaches, Porto Katsiki sits at the southwestern tip of Lefkada. Dramatic white cliffs rise 100 metres above turquoise water so clear you can see the seabed from the surface.
By road, you face a steep staircase with over 300 steps and summer crowds queuing for space. By yacht, you anchor in the bay before the day-trippers arrive and swim in peace.
Best time to visit: early morning (before 10am) or late afternoon when the cliff face catches golden light.
Egremni
Egremni was once accessible by a long staircase, but a 2015 earthquake destroyed the path. Since then, the only way to reach this 2km stretch of white sand is by water.
The result is one of the least crowded beaches in the Ionian, even in peak August. The water shifts between pale green and deep blue depending on the time of day. Bring snorkelling gear. The underwater visibility here is exceptional.
Agiofili
Tucked into a small cove near Vasiliki on Lefkada's southern coast, Agiofili is a sheltered pebble beach surrounded by pine trees. There is a rough footpath from Vasiliki, but arriving by boat is faster and far more comfortable.
The water here is calm and warm, making it ideal for families with children. A small beach bar operates in summer, but the vibe stays relaxed.
Megali Petra
A hidden gem on Lefkada's west coast, Megali Petra is a narrow strip of fine white sand backed by massive rock formations. There is no road access at all. You will rarely find more than two or three boats anchored here.
The rock formations create natural shade in the afternoon, and the snorkelling around the boulders is excellent. This is the kind of spot locals keep to themselves.
Afteli Bay
Between Vasiliki and Sivota, Afteli is a wide turquoise bay with a mix of sand and smooth pebbles. The approach by boat is beautiful: you round a headland and the bay opens up in front of you, framed by green hillside on both sides.
While technically reachable by a dirt road, the drive is rough and parking is limited to three or four cars. By boat, you drop anchor in clear shallow water and wade to shore.
