Sunset Sailing in Lefkada: Our Favourite Evening Routes

Lefkada's west coast faces the open Ionian Sea with nothing between you and the horizon. When the sun drops in the evening, the sky turns from blue to gold to deep orange, and the white cliffs along the coast glow like they are lit from within. Watching this from the deck of a yacht, drink in hand, is one of the best things you can do in Greece.

When Does the Sun Set?

In June and July, sunset is around 8:30-8:45pm. August sunsets are earlier, around 8:00-8:15pm. September evenings bring faster sunsets at 7:15-7:30pm, but the colours are often richer because of autumn dust in the atmosphere.

Route 1: Cape Lefkatas Sunset

The most dramatic sunset spot. Cape Lefkatas is the southernmost point of Lefkada, with cliffs rising 60 metres from the sea. The sun sets directly ahead as you face west. Combine this with a late-afternoon swim at Porto Katsiki and you have the perfect evening.

Route 2: Meganisi Evening Cruise

Head east to Meganisi in the late afternoon, swim in one of its sheltered bays, then cruise slowly back towards Lefkada as the sun sets behind the island. The view of Lefkada's mountains silhouetted against the sunset is striking. This route works well because the return journey faces west, directly into the sunset.

Route 3: West Coast Drift

Depart in the late afternoon, head south along Lefkada's west coast at a slow cruise. The cliffs change colour as the sun moves lower: white to cream to gold to deep amber. Stop the engines when the light peaks and just drift. The only sound is the water against the hull.

What to Bring for a Sunset Charter

A light jacket or long-sleeve top. Once the sun drops, the temperature falls quickly on the water. Your own drinks and snacks if you want something specific. We provide water, soft drinks, and glasses onboard.

A camera or phone with a good camera. Sunset light on the Ionian is special. The white cliffs reflect warm tones that you do not see from shore.
